Why Train in the Hand Poke technique?
The history of handpoke or stick and poke tattooing spans all cultures over thousands of years. What was once seen as an outdated method, replaced by machine tattoo "guns" is now making a huge-come back in the tattoo world. The hand poked technique has a more holistic approach making it a technique more and more people are drawn as it hurts less, is less invasive, heals quicker and can create a more organic and natural tattoo aesthetic.
As someone who values deep connections and intentional living, I teach with a mindful approach to tattooing. This makes the whole journey of both receiving and giving a tattoo a more positive and therapeutic practice.

What's included in your training
Receive hands on guided, step by step through the entire process from skin education, safety and sanitation to actually tattooing on real skin and everything in between!
Your training includes:
- Beginner tattoo kit + workbook
- Learning the history of tattoos
- Equipment overview and set-up
- Sanitary and safety protocols
- Skin education
- The use of different needles, inks and techniques
- Design creation and stencils
- Anatomical guidelines
- Aftercare information
- Mindful approach to client care and customer satisfaction
- Basic business guidance to take your new skill and make it into your dream job
- Thoughtful and constructive feedback on your homework, practice tattoos on fake skin and real skin
- Check-in ongoing mentorship post training
You may receive a small tattoo from Marni as a learning opportunity during training
You will also be giving a small tattoo (on Marni) at the end of your training.
Commitment & Cost
DATES: TBD (Winter/Spring of 2026)
Location: The Yurt, Cochrane AB
Time commitment: 40+ hours
Full hours is mandatory with homework and check-ins after the in-person training. A few FaceTime meetings after the training to review, discuss questions, thoughts, challenges and additional notes.
Cost: $1600+gst. A non refundable deposit of $250 is required to commit to the training. This is then deducted from the total amount ($1430 remaining).
What you will need: an IPad and IPencil is going to be extremely helpful in taking your designs and turning them into a stencil. However you can still do the training if you do not own one. There are other methods like free-hand stencilling that will be taught. Bring water, a lunch/money for lunch, pen and a eager learning attitude!
A minimum of 4 people are needed to run the training.
How to apply
I don't expect you to be a professional artist by any means, this training is for those who are wanting to take their existing creative spirit and expand it further. Is it important to note however that this is not an art class and you do need to know how to draw in order to then turn your art into tattoos.
